Respiratory System

Human respiratory system 2.jpg
Respiratory System
The respiratory system supplies oxygen and must work at steady pace to prevent death! The respiratory system has numerous parts such as the nose, pharynx, larynx ,trachea and lungs to name a few.

Nasal
Air enters through the nostrils. Our noses also have nasal cavities which are 2 hollow spaces. When air goes through the nasal cavities, that air becomes warm, filtered & moistened.

Sinus Cavity

Our sinus cavity is by the nasal cavity.

The sinus cavity provides a lot of things such as warming and softens air and gives us our voice.

The medical term for throat is pharynx. Our pharynx has 3 sections and they are...... the Nasopharynx (upper portion) , the Oropharynx (middle part) and the Laryngopharynx (bottom part).

How are we able to speak?? We can't just tell ourselves to talk. We have a voice box or larynx.
We have vocal cords... whenever the lungs release air our vocal cords vibrate and make sounds. Your tongue and lips help your speech.

Breathing is involuntary because you can control your breathing rate.. Fast/Slow
There are 2 stages of respiration...
External Respiration & Internal Respiration
Oxygen and your respiration system work together.

Circulatory System

Tired of reading boring blogs????...well here's another boring blog! You will thank me some day for this! :-):-):-)

The circulatory system can be known as the Cardiovascular system. CVS is referred to as the "transportation" system of the body. The CVS includes of the heart, blood vessels and blood.
  • Transports oxygen and nutrients to the body cells
Transports carbon dioxide and metabolic materials away from the body cells.
                                                    The Heart
  • Muscular
  •  Hollow Organ
  •  Pump of the body.
  • The size of a closed fist
  • located in the mediastinal cavity (between the lings, behind the sternum and above the diaphargm)
Did you know your heart has THREE LAYERS ???ENDOCARDIUM, MYOCARDIUM, PERICARDIUM.

Endocardium: Smooth Layer, cells that line the inside of the heart and is continuous with the inside of blood vessels.
Myocardium: The THICKEST Layer and the muscular layer.
Pericardium: a double-layered membrane or sac, that covers the outside of the heart.

What is a septum??
A septum is a muscular wall that separates the heart into a right side and left side.
Your septum prevents blood from moving between the right and left sides of the heart. The upper part of the septum is the interatrial septum, and the lower part is the interventricular septum.

Four Heart Chambers

The heart is divided into 4 parts or chambers!!
2 upper chambers are called Atria. 2 lower chambers are called Ventricles.
How do these chambers work???

Well the right atrium recieves blood as it returns from the body cells.
The right ventricle gets  blood from the right atrium and pumps the blood into the pulmonary artery, which carries the blood to the lungs for oxygen.
The left atrium gets oxygen generated blood from the lungs.
The left ventricle gets blood from the left atrium and pumps the blood into the aorta for transport to the body cells.

One Way valves in the chambers of the heart keep the blood flowing in the right direction. The triscupid valve is located between the right atrium and the right ventricle. It closes when the right ventricle contracts, allowing blood to flow to the lungs and preventing blood from flowing back into the right atrium.
The Pulmonary valve is a blood vessel that carries blood to the lungs. IT closes when the right ventricle finishes contracting, preventing blood from flowing back into the right ventricle.

The mitral valve closes when the left ventricle is contracting, allowing blood to flow into the aorta and preventing blood from flowing back into the left atrium.
Our bodies have 3 main types of blood vessels
  1. Arteries CARRY BLOOD AWAY FROM THE HEART
  2. Capillaries CONNECT THE ARTERIOLES W/ VENULES..SMALLEST VEINS
  3. Veins CARRY BLOOD BACK TO HEART

Our bodies also have 3 main kinds of blood cells
  1. ERYTHROCYTES - RED BLOOD CELLS
  2. HEMOGLOBINS- COMPLEX PROTEIN
  3. LEUKOCYTES - WHITE BLOOD CELLS
